Mindfulness cultivates an attitude of being kind to ourselves, noticing and regulating our stress patterns, which helps to reduce the path from stress to exhaustion.

Multi-tasking. Saying yes too much. Or not saying no enough. Committing and then not getting as much done as expected. Too many things on the to-do list and not enough hours in the day. Distracted. And now it’s the holiday season and everything is on turbo-charge!
Here’s one tip that can help move your attention from all that over thinking and relentless planning.
Use your body as a way of becoming present. Take advantage of short moments of waiting during the day to switch your attention to what you are feeling in your body at this moment.
Start by taking an intentional breath into your chest and down through your abdomen. Emphasize the exhale to get all the air out. From there, you might simply feel the weight and the connection of your body to the chair you’re sitting in or your feet to the ground.

One of my clients says that rush was her constant state before she started practicing mindfulness.
Mindfulness trains us to paying attention to the present moment, with an attitude of ease rather than self-pressure. This protects us from this constant state of feeling we have to be rushing to the next thing. It helps us manage the racing, repetitive, and non-productive thoughts that lead to stress, and cultivate the state of calm, and attending to important tasks in the right time, that is the antidote to rushing.
Try noticing what is making you rush – it might be interesting!
I run sessions on the third Monday of each month at Meadowbank Community Centre, 1.30.
The session includes gentle movement and relaxing simple meditation.

Maybe wanting a pragmatic way of learning to calm down and not be so reactive at home or at work. They might be tormented by anxious thoughts which they know are not rational, and have heard that mindfulness can help.
Maybe a particular physical challenge that they are grappling with – an illness or pain or sleep problems or want to reduce their blood pressure. Or just simply want to get to know themselves a bit more, and have heard that mindfulness can offer a useful map for this exploration.
If you are wanting to just have a taste of mindfulness to see if it can help, come and try some initial training and see if it makes sense to you.
I run a friendly little group. I teach gentle movement suitable for any body, & peaceful stillness.
The first session is free then it is by donation.
