MIQ Booking System
There has been some concern about "bots" being used to book spaces in MIQ for those returning to NZ. When I had to travel during lockdown I had difficulty too, because I needed to change my return flight and no corresponding time was available. Luckily I had managed to book 3 spots around my return date without using any bots, earlier, and when my flight got confirmed I just cancelled the other 2. Not sure if this is what is happening now but when I was talking to a lady in MIQ, she had booked 7 spots just in case her flights got cancelled, and only used 1 of them. In our MIQ there were a number of spaces available but technically they were pre booked! One couple hadn't been booked at all, (I guess some glitch in the system) and they had come from Hawaii but they secured a room anyway. I think that the Hotel admin were aware that some "bookers" wouldn't turn up so they would still have rooms available in case returnees weren't on their list. (To make it clear, some returnees had the correct paper work but somehow the hotel reception staff had not been notified from the officials that they were to be quarantined)

Poll: Do you think NZ should ban social media for youth?
The Australian Prime Minister has expressed plans to ban social media use for children.
This would make it illegal for under 16-year-olds to have accounts on platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X.
Social media platforms would be tasked with ensuring children have no access (under-age children and their parents wouldn’t be penalised for breaching the age limit)
.
