CANTERBURY SPORTS AWARDS
North Canterbury athletes are among the finalists for the annual Canterbury Sports Awards.
The Canterbury Wildcats women's basketball team, laden with North Canterbury players, is nominated for Team of the Year, and their coach, Lori McDaniel, is up for Coach of the Year.
Kaiapoi golfer Amelia Garvey and Canterbury women's rugby representative, Oxford's Grace Brooker, are both in the running for Young Sportswoman of the Year.
In the Sportsperson or Team with a Disability of the Year category is New Zealand boccia representative, Rangiora's Jeremy Morriss, and the international hockey test series between the women's Black Sticks and USA at the Waimakariri Hockey Turf is a finalist for the Sports Event of the Year.
Canterbury Country Cricket stalwart, Mike Satterthwaite, is also up for a Lifetime Achievement Award.

The Australian Prime Minister has expressed plans to ban social media use for children.
This would make it illegal for under 16-year-olds to have accounts on platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X.
Social media platforms would be tasked with ensuring children have no access (under-age children and their parents wouldn’t be penalised for breaching the age limit)
