Social dinner with BPW Franklin next week

Virginia from Pukekohe

BPW Franklin has the first meeting of the year, next week Wednesday 27th January at the Cossie Club, Nelson St Pukekohe 6.30 for 7pm. It is a social evening and a good time to make connections with other women, there will also be some planning for the year ahead so if you know some interesting speakers please bring their contact details.

We will be mentioning Red Bag Day also known as Equal Pay Day, which marks the period of extra days in the current year which women need to work to achieve the same wages as men earned during the previous financial year.

Equal Pay Day is recognised in many countries around the world, with the exact day varying depending on the gender pay gap in any particular country.

BPW Franklin is marking the day by filling red bags with toiletries and other essentials, for women who arrive at the refuges with nothing. If you would like to contribute to helping these women please bring along toiletry items. Shine has made the following suggestions:-

The basics: are toothpaste, toothbrush, shower gel, shampoo, conditioner and deodorant.

Extras: wipes, face tissues, brush/comb, facecloth/sponge, lip balm, plasters, soap, hand gel, cotton bus, torch.

BPW will fill the Red bags and these will be presented to Carol Hubert from Shine, who is the February speaker. You are welcome to attend this too.

If you wish to attend and we hope you will join us, please prepay $30 text Marilyn 027 4799121 for payment details before 8pm on Sunday 24th and let her know if you have any special dietary requirements.

We look forward to meeting you next week.

Poll: Do you think NZ should ban social media for youth?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

The Australian Prime Minister has expressed plans to ban social media use for children.

This would make it illegal for under 16-year-olds to have accounts on platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X.
Social media platforms would be tasked with ensuring children have no access (under-age children and their parents wouldn’t be penalised for breaching the age limit)
.
Do you think NZ should follow suit? Vote in our poll and share your thoughts below.
