Poll: Do you think the Government should remove GST from sanitary products?

Renee Clayton Reporter from Rodney Times

Two Whangaparaoa College students have created a petition to remove GST from sanitary products and are hoping to receive more than 100,000 signatures to take it to Parliament.

Melanie Wilcock, 17, and Rebecca Jacobs, 17, believe paying tax on these products is an ongoing issue for women and hope New Zealand will get behind them.

The teens say their is a 12 per cent gender pay gap in New Zealand and only biological women experience menstruation, therefore, women are being paid less than men and are charged GST for something that is essential to their health.

"This makes us wonder whether there would still be a luxury tax of 15 per cent on sanitary items if they were essential to all genders.," they say.

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

An Auckland court has ruled a woman doesn’t have to contribute towards the cost of fixing a driveway she shares with 10 neighbours.

When thinking about fences, driveways or tree felling, for example, do you think all neighbours should have to pay if the improvements directly benefit them?
