Mourners arrive for King's tangi
Thousands assembled in Ngāruawāhia at Tūrangawaewae Marae on Sunday to pay respects to Kiingi Tuheitia Pootatau Te Wherowhero VII as tribes from across the country prepare to pay their respects this week.
Members of iwi and hapu far and wide gathered to attend the 8am and 2pm pōwhiri and, amongst the crowds were three members of the Kāwhia Māori Womens Welfare League - mother-daughter-aunty trio Ruth Waterhouse, Kelly Isherwood and Tiki Porima-Ryan.

Paula Southgate’s decision not to run for Hamilton mayor this year has turned the spotlight on who’ll replace her, with at least three strong, fiscally “conservative” male possibilities.
There were also longer-shot “maybes” from female councillors on the left of the political spectrum when Waikato Times did a ring-around.
