Pet-killing dogs on the loose in Burwood/Shirley
Two pet-killing canines are still on the loose despite being spotted on camera nearly two months ago.
Kathryn Rutherford reported a fatal dog attack on her two pet cats to Christchurch City Council in November, killing both, but says she is livid the dogs have not been found almost two months later.
The situation is personal for Rutherford, as her own pet dog Soula was put down for biting a child’s face last year, despite her taking legal action to prevent it being destroyed.
Animal control officers responded to two separate dog attacks on cats in Shirley in November and a third on Christmas Day in nearby Burwood, killing a pet sheep.
The officers pursued the dogs on Christmas Day, but were unable to catch up and eventually lost sight of them, council head of regulatory compliance Tracey Weston said.
