Life story: Jos Sturkenboom devoted 35 years to police and community
A well-loved West Coast community constable will be remembered for helping his community.
Senior Constable Joseph Sturkenboom, known as Jos, was a police officer for 36 years, spending 30 of those in search and rescue and 22 visiting the region's schools.
He died of bowel cancer on July 13, aged 60.
"He never said a wrong word about any body. He was humble and embarrassed when people wanted to help him or fundraise for him when he was sick. He told them to donate it to the Cancer Society, bowel cancer research or the West Coast Special Olympics," his wife, Joanne, said.
Poll: Do you think NZ should ban social media for youth?
The Australian Prime Minister has expressed plans to ban social media use for children.
This would make it illegal for under 16-year-olds to have accounts on platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X.
Social media platforms would be tasked with ensuring children have no access (under-age children and their parents wouldn’t be penalised for breaching the age limit)
.
