Island Bay Toilets Reopened:
Great news that work on the Island Bay toilets has finished and they have finally been reopened :)
Why were they closed for so long? There had been on-going leaks at the toilets for some time, so the toilet block was closed while investigations were carried out. It was found that the leaks were due to multiple breaks in the watermain running up alongside Island Bay Road. The decision was made to re-route the watermain away from the trees, however it was discovered that Chorus had a fibre optic cable in the area where the drilling would be carried out. This then required a permit to work near the Chorus cable, a new traffic management plan, and the supervision of a Chorus engineer on site to oversee the work.
Attached are a few photos (supplied) taken during the project.
