Summer daytrips out of Auckland always seem like a great plan until you’re trapped in a sticky motorway crawl, with thousands of other people who had the same bright idea.
But swap your roadie for a ferry and you’ll gain time, save petrol, and get sweet views from the water to boot.
Rangitoto and Waiheke might be the obvious island destinations, but there are plenty more places you can explore via the water.

With the government cracking down on gangs, it is now illegal for gang members to display their insignia in public places whether through clothing or their property.
This means arrests can be made if these patches are worn in places like restaurants, shops, on public transport or ferries, and on airplanes. Arrests were made recently at a funeral.
