Talking with the players on East FM on Saturday arvo...

Phil from Farm Cove

High-class Kiwi bands Stellar*, The Rvmes, and Odds & Ends feature – and we’ve got interviews lined up with them – on tomorrow’s She’ll Be Right on Saturdays Show with PJ Taylor, 3-7pm (NZ time), November 26 on East FM.

The Rvmes and Odds & Ends are both at that exciting early stage in their respective careers that Stellar* were a couple of decade ago, releasing singles regularly and their first albums and it’ll be great to catch up with them.
We’re scheduled to talk with bassist Kurt Shanks (and potentially Boh Runga, too) of Stellar* around 5pm, fresh off the stage at a wine festival in Marlborough.

And we’ll chat with the charismatic Edwin Judd of The Rvmes at 5.30pm, and the energetic Koen Aldershof of Odds & Ends at 4pm.

Stellar* are, of course, one of this country’s finest pop-rock bands, also featuring guitarist Chris van der Geer and drummer Andrew McLaren. They’re coming to East Auckland this summer, headlining the Groove in the Grapes concert at Turanga Creek Winery in Whitford on Saturday, January 21, along with bands, Coupe de Ville, and Hands Off. Tickets at www.eventfinda.co.nz...

It’s a huge time for eclectic alt-rock four-piece The Rvmes, with the release of their new album Simple Things, which they say is “songs touching on relatable themes like fading childhood friendships, struggles of love, self-assurance around your passions, and what we all deserve in life”.

They add it also “tackles more heavy hitting topics” than their last album, “framing a wider social commentary to shine a light on the simple things in life that should be easy for all to access, like a fair wage, education, affordable health and mental health care services”.

The Rvmes are proudly self-sufficient, funding their recordings and taking on producing and mixing. Simple Things was written over the past year, and recorded in former lead guitarist Miro Gibson’s home studio, with mastering by Luke Finlay at Primal Mastering.

“There’s no better feeling than writing music and releasing it to the world. We were so lucky to have a home studio at our previous guitarist Miro’s place. When he decided to head overseas, we wanted to create one final project which included him and used the song ideas we were already working on.”

The Rvmes are Edwin Judd (vocals, rhythm guitar), Logan Fox (drums), Ronaldo Lima (bass, percussion) and Richard Moore (lead guitar). At www.thervmes.co.nz...

Dutch-Kiwi indie-rock band Odds and Ends have just put out their “look-on-the-bright-side” sunny new single Better Days.

“It’s essentially a song that will hopefully transport people to their happy places,” says frontman, guitarist and songwriter Koen Aldershof.

“I wrote it with my best friend in mind. We used to go on road-trips together a lot and would spend the summer spearfishing, surfing and camping. That’s my happy place.

“‘Better Days to me feels like you are outside and there’s sun shining on your skin; those feel-good, blissful summer moments.”
Odds & Ends are completed by Max Earnshaw (guitar, drums), Jonathan Meyer (bass) and Josh Johnston (drums).

The Rvmes hold their Simple Things album release party at The Anthology Lounge on Karangahape Road on Saturday, December 10, where Odd and Ends, Makeshift Parachutes and DJ Bax are playing in support. Tickets at www.eventbrite.co.nz...

East FM is East Auckland’s legendary community-powered public service radio station, on 88.1FM and 107.1FM on local frequencies, nationally and globally at www.eastfm.nz... and on app iHeart Radio.
She’ll Be Right - it’s all about the vibe; it’s all about the groove. And this Saturday, we’re talking with the key players. – PJ
