Welcome back to Term 3, nice to see the days starting to get longer and we are looking forward to the Magnolia trees blossoming over the next few weeks filling the area with a burst of colour.

We finished Term 2 with a creative Matariki evening celebration, sharing kai, making crafts and lots of music learning all about Matariki. We also had a lovely trip to McLaren's Falls, rugged up warm doing some bug exploring and scavenger hunting. As adults we tend to hibernate and not want to venture out much during the colder months, but our children still love the outdoors and they embrace the weather, so getting out and about is great.

We continue to have a number of our older children embark on their next journey to school, but with this it leaves a smaller amount of members at Playcentre. We would love some new families to join us, bringing in new ideas, inspiration and fun to our centre. We have a lovely relaxed and flexible culture and enjoy the beautiful rural surroundings and large outdoor play area. If you know of new families to the area, or families with young children please pass on the word and encourage them to visit.

Upcoming trips for Term 3 include Flip Out Tramp Park, a nature walk at one of our local parks and a visit to Te Puna quarry. There are still a few places left for our 'Wonder craft fundraiser' event on Sat 12 Aug at 10am - making some awesome fairy and elf creations. Don't miss out! www.facebook.com...

Finally we are sad to be saying goodbye to our amazing Session Supervisor Jules Rutherford, after 9 years involvement in Playcentre this will be her last term with us. So we are now on the hunt for an experienced Playcentre member who has a C3 to join us to help run our Tuesday and Friday sessions. If you are interested or know of anyone please let us know.

Come and join us Pyes Pa Playcentre, Sessions run from 9:30-12:00 Tuesday and Fridays. www.facebook.com...

Thanks so much to the Pyes Pa Community Newsletter, we are once again very grateful to receive your donation and are excited to be able to purchase some new reading books and a new toddler swing. Thank you again for your support.

Earlier this month we joined up with the Oropi playgroup and caught the bus into Tauranga CBD. The tamariki were delighted with the bus trip as they sat giggling together in the back seat. We visited Tauranga library and joined in on toddler time while the older children got to create some art over at a workshop at Tauranga Art Gallery. Finally a quick visit to the waterfront playground and back home on the bus. Great to get out and about exploring with friends.

A number of our older children are moving into Pyes Pa School this year. This a great transition as they know the school grounds from being at Playcentre and know some of the school children already who were previously playcentre kids. We started a new tradition for the children starting school, by creating a beautiful new Korowai where we will sew on a material handprint of each of our departing tamariki, as a way to recognise this journey. We also have a little ceremony and shared morning tea to celebrate.

Our regular Playcentre meeting was held this week, which is a great way to get involved and have a say about the way we run out centre. We started planning our Matariki celebration and looking forward to progress with fixing our deck roof to ensure it will be watertight very soon.

Our library is looking a bit tired, so if you have any old books suitable for children 6 years or under, we would really appreciate these.

Want to join in the fun at Pyes Pa Playcentre, come for a visit - all new families welcome. Sessions run from 9:30-12:00 Tuesday and Fridays.

Another busy and fun month at Pyes Pa Playcentre, including a couple of trips, a couple of courses and welcoming some new families to our centre.

We started the month with a focus on treasure hunting. Pirates, treasure chests and golden loot have been great fun, getting all the children involved and interacting. We started with a sandpit treasure hunt at the centre, continued this the following week with a trip to Motuopuhi (Rat) Island where an amazing treasure chest was uncovered. The children loved wading out across the mudflaps to the island, searching for crabs, jumping in muddy puddles and exploring little alcoves. Luckily we got in just before the rain started.

Our other trip was to Redwood Lane Blueberries. So great for the children to help understand where our food comes from and then it was back to centre for process cooking action - fresh delicious Blueberry muffins. Yum!

We also held a wheels day on session where we all brought something with a wheel and setup a track. Lots of fun and the children interacting really well together.

Pyes Pa Playcentre hosted two workshops this month a creativity course and sand workshop. These are both fun interactive courses for parents and caregivers which got our creative juices flowing in painting, clay and marbelling. This course really helped us understand about our children development stages and how to encourage and support their own creativity, and we gain credits in the NZQA system in Early Childhood Education.

We would love your support The Warehouse at the Crossing, for our fundraising towards replacing our deck roof. With autumn upon us, we really need to replace this roof asap as it leaks and leaves us with very limited space to play in. so grab those tokens at the counter and help us fill our container!

Are you looking for a great gift - we still have some 'Sweet Enough' cookbooks left to sell. This high quality cookbook has over 80 delicious recipes - all your favourite recipes with less sugar, all scientifically tested to ensure the recipe still works. Contact us for more information or to have a look at a copy of the book.
