The Friends of Belmont Regional Park Inc. (FoBRP) was formed in 1999 to promote community interest and advocacy for this significant public open space reserve (3,500 Ha). The area has a mix of remnant and regenerating forest, open hill tops with spectacular views and farmland, and is accessible from several entrances on the Hutt and Cannons Creek – Takapu Rd sides; see http://www.gw.govt.nz/belmont/ . Our particular interests are in management and policy concerning the park, and in promoting interest and activities associated with environmental, historical and outdoor recreational values. A working group meets most months and there is an annual general meeting; see http://fobrp.org.nz/ .
