Celebrity pops into town

Annette Lambly-Robinson Reporter from Whangārei Leader

Down to earth celebrity has many humourous anecdotes and tips for life.

Gardening guru and former editor of New Zealand Gardener Lynda Hallinan was guest speaker at the Glitterati Garden Party, held to launch this year's Whangarei Garden Discovery. 2016 marks the 20th anniversary of the garden discovery and fittingly 20 gardens, rural and coastal gardens from Parua Bay, Maunu, Maungatapere, Kamo to Kauri were opened to public for viewing.

Hosted at the Whangarei Quarry Gardens on November 17, Hallinan gave an entertaining perspective of gardening husbands and children. She also signed copies of her latest book "Foggydale Farm, Jam Sessions".

Music by Sistema and Northland Opera, cocktails and prizes for the best dressed added to the entertainment line up. Members of the original committee were in attendance during the mix and mingle that preceded the three day garden trail along with many of the gardeners whose hard work was on display.

Poll: Do you think banning gang patches is reasonable?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

With the government cracking down on gangs, it is now illegal for gang members to display their insignia in public places whether through clothing or their property.

This means arrests can be made if these patches are worn in places like restaurants, shops, on public transport or ferries, and on airplanes. Arrests were made recently at a funeral.

Do you think this ban is reasonable?

Poll: Should all neighbours have to contribute to improvements?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

An Auckland court has ruled a woman doesn’t have to contribute towards the cost of fixing a driveway she shares with 10 neighbours.

When thinking about fences, driveways or tree felling, for example, do you think all neighbours should have to pay if the improvements directly benefit them?
