Public meeting at Bream Bay on Civil Defence - 20 Dec
There has been a lot of interest from recent civil defence activities in Northland, so we are holding a community meeting in Bream Bay next Tuesday 20th December at 6pm in the Bream Bay College auditorium. If you would like to come along and meet the lovely Northland CDEM team, these are the topics we will be discussing:
- getting prepared for emergencies
- learning how to download and use the Hazard App on your smartphone
- looking at evacuation maps and finding out what zone you are in
- a bit about social media and how we run things in the CDEM office.
This is an open meeting to discuss civil defence matters and there will be the opportunity for really keen people to join the local response group too. See you all there next week !

Poll: Do you think NZ should ban social media for youth?
The Australian Prime Minister has expressed plans to ban social media use for children.
This would make it illegal for under 16-year-olds to have accounts on platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X.
Social media platforms would be tasked with ensuring children have no access (under-age children and their parents wouldn’t be penalised for breaching the age limit)
.
Do you think NZ should follow suit? Vote in our poll and share your thoughts below.
