Good People
On Thursday the 24th October, WFS will be screening, the French comedy, The President's Wife, starring Catherine Deneuve.
This was a hit at all the major festivals and it very much looks to be our best film for the year, so don't miss it.
Our 8pm screening is the French comedy, Mr Blake at Your Service, starring John Malkovich and Fanny Ardent.
THE PRESIDENT'S WIFE
France (subtitles), 2023, Comedy, Drama
94 mins, Rated M (Strong language)
Cast: Catherine Deneuve, Denis Podalydès
When Jacques Chirac was elected President of France in the 1990s, he considered himself part of a new, political elite. Unlike his wife, Bernadette who was - well, just a wife.
Bernadette had been in the background for years, tirelessly supporting Jacques' quest to attain the presidency. Now victorious, she yearns for the support and appreciation of the nation but Bernadette learns she is viewed as old-fashioned, out of touch and emotionally cold.
But having spent years of negotiating behind the scenes, Bernadette's political instincts are finely honed. And now that Jacques is President, she has no desire to continue being the little woman behind the Great Man.
So, Bernadette ditches the pearls and silk scarves, reinvents herself and makes it her mission to claim her own space in the spotlight, using her wit and political skills to champion just causes and to hopefully win the respect of the French people.
"Deneuve is equal parts stunning and hilarious." - Film Review
