When preacher, Thomas Munro arrives from the UK at the small coastal town of Epworth in the 1830s, New Zealand is a Māori world, dominated by fierce wars.
In a battle between tribes, Munro saves the life of Rangimai, the daughter of Maianui, a local chief. Maianui owns the land the people of Epworth lease in a delicate arrangement.
With tensions escalating, Munro and Rangimai decide to journey into uncharted territory in the hope of brokering peace between the warring tribes before the townspeople are attacked. However, Munro soon realises he's a pawn in a war between the two chiefs and must decide how he can best serve both the townsfolk and the local tribes.

Poll: Do you think NZ should ban social media for youth?
The Australian Prime Minister has expressed plans to ban social media use for children.
This would make it illegal for under 16-year-olds to have accounts on platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X.
Social media platforms would be tasked with ensuring children have no access (under-age children and their parents wouldn’t be penalised for breaching the age limit)
.
