Pink Shirt Day
Today is Pink Shirt Day, a day where New Zealanders are asked to celebrate, speak up, stand together and stop bullying.
It started in a small town in Nova Scotia, Canada in 2007. Two students, David Shepherd and Travis Price, took a stand against homophobic bullying and mobilised their whole school after a student was harassed and threatened for wearing pink
Since 2012, Pink Shirt Day has been led by the Mental Health Foundation, with support from the Peace Foundation, RainbowYOUTH, InsideOUT, New Zealand Post Primary Teachers' Association, Youthline and Family Works.
And it's something close to my heart. So drag out your pink shirt today and stand shoulder to shoulder with us as we stand against bullying - of any kind, at any level.
We're all in this together and nobody's getting out alive, so embrace kindness, celebrate our diversity, and wear pink.
Not just today, but every day.

Poll: Do you think NZ should ban social media for youth?
The Australian Prime Minister has expressed plans to ban social media use for children.
This would make it illegal for under 16-year-olds to have accounts on platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X.
Social media platforms would be tasked with ensuring children have no access (under-age children and their parents wouldn’t be penalised for breaching the age limit)
.
