Cutting Down a tree at 21 Lewisville Terrace

It was terribly sad today to watch one of the most beautiful deciduous trees in Thorndon getting chopped down. A birch tree in the garden of No 21 Lewisville Terrace. It shone like a lovely yellow beacon through the Autumn months, and probably cheered up a few souls through the Covid lockdown.

It was terribly sad today to watch one of the most beautiful deciduous trees in Thorndon getting chopped down. A birch tree in the garden of No 21 Lewisville Terrace. It shone like a lovely yellow beacon through the Autumn months, and probably cheered up a few souls through the Covid lockdown.

I know it wasn't a WCC heritage tree, but it would be great to know what criteria was used to remove such a magnificent specimen. And great if we could build a community approach towards identifying and proposing some protection towards the best trees that exist in our neighbourhood.
