New Mens Head Coach for Wellington United AFC

Jo from Wellington United Associated Football Club

Wellington United welcomes our new Men's team head coach, Stu Jacobs and confirms the re-appointment of our successful Women's team head coach, Guillermo Schiltenwolf.

Stu is one of the few New Zealander's that holds an AFC \ FFA 'A' coaching license. He came to coaching after a long and successful playing career that saw him play 461 games including 32 for the All Whites.

Like his playing career his coaching career has been at the highest level including spells in charge of New Zealand U20 & U23, Youth coach at Central Coach Mariners, NZ National League at Team Wellington, Youngheart Manawatu and Miramar Rangers and at Central League level with Western Suburbs and Wellington Olympic. He has won the National League, Chatham Cup, Central League and twice been named NZ Coach of the year.

Stu will be bringing his wealth of experience and connections from his Kaizen academy that will partner Wellington United to run a strong U19s & U17s playing program. Jacobs said "I am delighted to be involved with Wellington United as we look to rebuild the senior and youth programmes at the club. Wellington United is a club steeped in history not only locally within Wellington, but also Nationally. It is a privilege to be afforded this opportunity."

Guillermo Schiltenwolf will be continuing in his position as successful head coach of the Wellington United Women's team (the Diamonds). Going into his ninth season in the role, he will be looking to emulate the success of last season's W-League title and Kelly Cup wins and go one step better in th Kate Sheppard Cup, where they achieved a club first in reaching the semi-final. Guille will again be assisted by Elliott Taylor. Elliott came to United in 2015 and has become an integral part of the team which has set the standard and made Wellington United a formidable force in women's football.

Completing the management lineup for 2019 are Maika Ruyter-Hooley & Alice Cooke-Harvie, who will again be taking the reins of the Women's Capital Premier Sapphires. Head coach Maika arrived at Wellington United in 2016 from Melbourne Victory and was a key member of the 2016 Central League winning side. Last season she moved into management and assisted by another Diamond's stalwart, Alice Cooke-Harvie, they took the team to 3rd place in the league and were described as the best footballing team in the division by opponents.

Poll: Do you think NZ should ban social media for youth?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

The Australian Prime Minister has expressed plans to ban social media use for children.

This would make it illegal for under 16-year-olds to have accounts on platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X.
Social media platforms would be tasked with ensuring children have no access (under-age children and their parents wouldn’t be penalised for breaching the age limit)
.
Do you think NZ should follow suit? Vote in our poll and share your thoughts below.
