Jo and Rachel talked about what's going on in their own backyards and suggested some edible crops you can sow and grow yourself. Jo gave a masterclass in planting tomatoes, the pair discussed peeing on lemon trees and keeping cats out of your vege beds, and Rachel talked to a Central Otago gardener who has to deal with extreme temperatures, extreme drought... and temperamental donkeys. My little 10 year-old sister and I have some more freshly-picked, pesticide-free habaneros off our bush that we would like to sell to earn some pocket money.
The $1 coin is for size reference, these habaneros are on average 4x to 5x bigger than normal chillis and are really hot so you only need to cut up a small portion into food. The rest can be frozen until needed. Currently Countdown sell jalapenos for $1.20 each. These are smaller and much more mild than my habaneros meaning they don't go as far.
$1 each or 6 for $5.
Please PM me or email me at haydenthemonkey@gmail.com for more info. Thanks!

You may not be able to grow a mustache this November but you certainly can grow a lot of Comfrey plants.
About the medicinal benefits of comfrey, please ask Dr Google. There's too much information.
Comfrey is a remarkable plant. It can be used to create a powerful liquid fertiliser, as well as a compost activator to produce enriched compost. It can create a fertiliser base within the soil, as well as a nutritious mulch on top. You can also use the dead leaves to make leaf mould as a nutritious potting compost.
Comfrey leaves contain the vital nutrients of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium – all of which are needed by growing plants. These nutrients are released as the leaves decay. Potassium is used particularly to promote healthy flowers, seed and fruit: comfrey leaves contain up to three times more potassium than farmyard manur
the garden uses of comfrey.
It is a fast growing plant and can even grow in the clay soil found in Tawa.
The small pots are $2.00 each and the bigger ones $5.00 each.
