The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

Armed police are visible in Mandalay Terrace and Lakshmi Place in Khandallah this morning.

Police said in a statement they were “making inquiries to locate a person of interest” and the armed offenders squad was assisting as a precaution. An older, damaged Mercedes with what appears to be bullet holes is parked in the street, a Stuff reporter at the scene said.

A resident in Mandalay Terrace said the street is 'blocked off' and Police are not allowing anyone to enter or leave at this time. While Police vehicles can be seen circling the properties on Lakshmi Place.

What you need to know:
- Residents in the area have been asked to stay indoors
- Police cars were still seen in the area at 11am

UPDATE: A 60 year old man has now been arrested and cordons are no longer in place as of 2pm.

Poll: Do you think NZ should ban social media for youth?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

The Australian Prime Minister has expressed plans to ban social media use for children.

This would make it illegal for under 16-year-olds to have accounts on platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X.
Social media platforms would be tasked with ensuring children have no access (under-age children and their parents wouldn’t be penalised for breaching the age limit)
.
Do you think NZ should follow suit? Vote in our poll and share your thoughts below.
