"Yesterday I was doing my usual stalking of the backyard birds with my camera behind my washing line as they were flying in for their daily feed of the seed that I had just thrown on the lawn and wondered why they just suddenly all flew off in all directions! What had scared them off was the sight of this magnificent but rotound feline lurking quite near by.

She is very much a Jeckyll and Hyde character, very friendly when she is tucked up with me at night and just loves having her belly rubbed. But outside she runs away when approached and totally disappears when friends or family drop in for a coffee!"

We wouldn’t change her for the world!Remember if you want your pet featured on Neighbourly, email us on yourpet@dompost.co.nz with a recent photo. Please remember to say which suburb you live in.

Kia ora Ngaio,

Some of you will be aware about the critical work we've been doing at Korimako Stream to urgently replace a fragile wastewater pipe. Last weekend, we had the helicopter onsite to safely transport the new pipes down to Korimako Stream.

Adverse weather this week has delayed the connection of the pipe sections, which are now expected to be completed early next week. We are hopeful for good weather come Monday to enable the team to complete the connection of the new pipeline.

We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding while we complete the final stages of this important project.

Halloween is coming up and was wondering if our suburbs would be keen to band together to create a neat trick or treat atmosphere for the young ones? Was thinking of getting participating houses to tie a balloon or something to their letterbox to signal they're up for treatin', and setting up an FB event to spread awareness. It's been a rollercoaster year or two for the young ones and I thought it might be nice to create a bit of magic for them. 🥰 Thoughts?

Join the rest of the motu on October 28 by taking part in our national earthquake drill and tsunami hīkoi, ShakeOut. Signing up only takes 2 minutes and when you do, you’ll be entered to win a personal emergency grab bag or civil defence wheelie bin kit from NZ Civil Defence.
ShakeOut takes place around the world to remind people of the right action to take during an earthquake:

DROP - down on your hands and knees. This protects you from falling but lets you move if you need to.

COVER - your head and neck (or entire body if possible) under a sturdy table or desk (if it is within a few steps of you). If there is no shelter nearby, cover your head and neck with your arms and hands.

HOLD - on to your shelter (or your position to protect your head and neck) until the shaking stops. If the shaking shifts your shelter around, move with it.

Head to www.shakeout.govt.nz... to sign up today and get involved!
