Blackcurrants – A Superfood Berry
A good time to incorporate NZ Blackcurrants into your diet. These berries contain rich levels of health promoting micronutrients and polyphenols. They are packed with antioxidants, vitamin C, anthocyanins and flavonoids. NZ blackcurrants are known for having some of the highest anthocyanin levels in the world. Blackcurrants are readily available in the frozen section of your supermarket.
Add to your smoothie, yoghurt, make a chia seed blackcurrant jam or just let the frozen berry melt on your tongue as a snack. Be warned the high anthocyanins in blackcurrants will stain your tongue and fingers dark blue/red.
Potential health benefits of blackcurrants:
• Improve or help digestive issues and feed your beneficial
bacteria in the gut.
• May help to reduce inflammation (extinguish the fire burning in
your body).
• Help strengthening your immune system.
• Improve function and structure of blood vessels.
• Contribute to eye and brain health and exercise recovery

Poll: Do you think NZ should ban social media for youth?
The Australian Prime Minister has expressed plans to ban social media use for children.
This would make it illegal for under 16-year-olds to have accounts on platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X.
Social media platforms would be tasked with ensuring children have no access (under-age children and their parents wouldn’t be penalised for breaching the age limit)
.
