A car crashed on Cobham Drive, outside St Patrick’s College, near the intersection of Evans Bay Pde in Kilbirnie on Sunday, resulting in the death of a 16 year-old.
Stuff understands the car involved had been previously stolen from an address in Miramar. Police report there were seven reports of stolen cars in Miramar last week.
It was the second fatal crash of the weekend with another death on Saturday following a two-car crash in Upper Hutt.
Wellingtom police subsequently released a statement calling on Wellingtons to take more care on the roads.
"Two grieving families and two funerals being planned before Christmas. We need to do better Wellington. It really is so simple."

Every year around this time organisations who care about the wellbeing of people and our city in the area of family harm come together to celebrate a day encouraging awareness and education.
Next week is White Ribbon week. It is a week when we have the opportunity as a country to think about ways we can support, learn, and acknowledge those who experience family harm.
Greg Finnigan the Service Manager at Man Kind, a house for men in Lower Hutt says “What men internalise about power and gender is often not good for them at all. The way men try to hold onto the power and control can be destructive for the whole family. It can destroy all the opportunities to show the love they feel and want to bring to the home. Society has changed, families have changed, men need to be curious how they might change.”
This year the White Ribbon campaign continues to focus on Respectful Relationships, relationships that are built on equality and fairness between women, men, and children. Our seeing and acknowledging these outdated beliefs of the past is a particular focus for us in 2020. Respectful relationships aren’t about manipulation and mind games - they require us to treat our partners as our equals by listening to each other and making decisions together.
The Whakatauki for us this year is - Ruia te taitea, ka tu taikaka anake / Shake off the old, to reveal the new. If we think of the #outdated ideas as something that needs to be removed, in the natural world that removal often allows new growth to occur. In other words, if we remove that which is holding us back, we can grow as human beings and develop what we call healthy masculinity. #Outdated messages like “Show them who’s boss” this will be overwritten with SHOW THEM YOU LOVE THEM and “Kids should keep quiet” – KIDS SHOULD BE HEARD (When a child asks a question, they are reaching out to us to learn something), or “Treat ‘em mean, keep ‘em keen?” - TREAT ‘EM EQUAL.
As part of the whanau event there will be local stories shared, kapa haka celebrated and heaps of family entertainment will be enjoyed along with a free sausage sizzle. We hope you and your family will make it along. It is worth celebrating respectful relationships, non-coercive, caring ways of relating in our community.
The convoy gets underway at 11.00am on Saturday 21st November starting from St Patrick’s Silverstream, with a whanau event beginning at 11.30-1.30pm at UH Primary school.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the 4WD movements and noise from the helicopter activity. While neighbours near the helicopter landing zone were advised of the exercise, residents further afield were also affected.
The exercise involved Police Search and Rescue personnel, Wellington LandSAR volunteers, New Zealand Airforce, Greater Wellington Regional Council, Amateur Radio and the Cross-Country Vehicle Club.
Training exercises provide and important opportunity for SAR personnel to learn new skills and test themselves in the environment and conditions likely to be encountered in a real search. As it happened, teams were deployed into the Tararua Ranges on Friday evening for a seriously injured tramper and again on Sunday for two people swept out to sea on the south coast of Wellington. Both rescues were successful.
We would like to thank local landowners that allowed the use of their properties and acknowledge the support of the Upper Hutt City Council who kindly made Karapoti Park available.

Judy’s health took a serious turn a … View moreThe Avonhead local, who had a career in aged care education and assessment, became a village resident herself just three months ago and enjoys reading in her downtime. The village library also gives her a chance to meet her village neighbours and have a chat.
Judy’s health took a serious turn a year ago, prompting her to move into the village and into a one bedroom apartment overlooking the street.
“I lived alone and my sons were worried about me because I began falling and I couldn’t get out. Then I thought I need to be sensible here and do something about it. For me it was important I stayed in the area and I guess it was important that I knew somebody here.”
After selling her house and the village team holding the apartment she’d chosen, Judy followed Harvey, her next-door neighbour of many years, into Bupa Parkstone Retirement Village. The village team had kept in contact with her for a number of months before she’d decided to move in, inviting her to regular village functions during that time.
“There’s everything going on here for you, you couldn’t ask for more. There’s a superb manager who not only manages but she’s also a social worker and everything else with it.”
Judy says the move from a house on a back section meant safety and security was a top priority when deciding on a village.
“There’s always someone here at the front desk and they have security regularly checking too. It’s so important to me.”
Coming from a big house into an apartment hasn’t bothered Judy, and now with her health regularly monitored she is really embracing retirement village life. There’s the weekly grocery shopping at the local supermarket next door and the regular Tai Chi sessions that relax her by slowing her breathing.
“I very much want to be independent for as long as I can and I get to do that here. I also get to continue with lots of reading in lovely surroundings too.”

- use a trigger hose to water plants ?
- soak don't sprinkle - a good soaking twice a week will encourage feeder roots to grow down ?

New Zealand Police's Financial Intelligence Unit estimates New Zealanders lose $20-30 million annually to scams.
HOW TO AVOID A SCAM:
+ A genuine bank or organisation will never contact you to ask for your PIN, password or to move money to another account.
+ Never click on a link in an unexpected email or text – you could be giving access to your personal and financial details.
+ Always question uninvited approaches in case it is a scam. Instead, contact the company directly using a known email or phone number.
+ Don’t assume an email or phone call is authentic – just because someone knows your basic details (name and address, or mother’s maiden name) it doesn’t mean they are genuine.
+ Don’t be rushed into making a decision or financial transaction on the spot – a genuine bank or trusted organisation would never do this.
+ Listen to your instincts – if something feels wrong then it generally is.

A world class athlete, she is an advocate for the blind and has never let her disability stop her.
Living in Upper Hutt, she took up competitive swimming at nine, first representing New Zealand in Australia in 2007.

A world class athlete, she is an advocate for the blind and has never let her disability stop her.
Living in Upper Hutt, she took up competitive swimming at nine, first representing New Zealand in Australia in 2007.
At the 2009 World Short Course Championships she featured prominently before setting a world record in the women’s 200m individual medley S11 at the London 2012 Paralympic Games.
Mary always took her sport seriously, training daily with a determination to see how fast she could go.
At the 2013 IPC Swimming World Championships in Montreal, she won five gold medals.
At the 2015 IPC Swimming World Championships in Glasgow, Mary secured a further five medals including three gold, and at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games she again broke a world record in winning gold.
Mary retired from Para swimming in November 2018.
Mary, 26, is well-known for her work as an advocate around disability and environmental issues and for her support developing Para swimmers and mentoring youth with vision impairment and their families.
In 2019, she was appointed to the board of Paralympics New Zealand.
