Upper Hutt Library Changes

Jan from Ebdentown

I have requested the quoted research data under the Official Information Act
“The changes were well researched and based on successful similar layouts implemented in libraries both in New Zealand and overseas.”

I have just received official written confirmation that above request under the Act has been received and I can expect an answer as to whether or not they are going to give it to me by July 17th 2017.
It turns out that if they do choose to give it to me, they can charge me for it. Here’s hoping I can afford it!
I await developments!
Some good news-
I have been contacted again by Councillor McLeod who is taking an interest and wants to meet, also by Councillor Connelly whose reply was informative, thoughtful and sympathetic and also Councillor Swales who had not been informed from Council anything about me or our concerns over the Library, which surprised me, she is also taking an interest. Councillor Swales also was informative and asked me to share more.
This was the 2nd email I had sent to Councillors.
Being ignored by the people you elected and pay to represent you is unacceptable. It is a City Councillors role to represent citizens/ratepayers to the City Council, to reflect and facilitate democracy, to not do that, is undemocratic and disenfranchising. I also believe that their role also includes explain Council to citizens.
However, experience tells me that my being ignored, by any organisation that is supposed to be accountable to me, but doesn’t want or intend to be, proves the importance of my questions. It lets me know that I am on the right track.
At the very least they literally have no answer to me and possibly something to hide!
• Please, please let your Council and Councillors know how YOU feel, ask for the proof that what they have done is best for Upper Hutt Library and it members.
I now feel I have a whole new issue on my hands! I am now going to do a little reading
Local Government Act 2002
Public Act 2002 No 84
Date of assent 24 December 2002
2014 (2014 No 55).
Part 2
Purpose of local government, and role and powers of local
Authorities.

Poll: Do you think NZ should ban social media for youth?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

The Australian Prime Minister has expressed plans to ban social media use for children.

This would make it illegal for under 16-year-olds to have accounts on platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X.
Social media platforms would be tasked with ensuring children have no access (under-age children and their parents wouldn’t be penalised for breaching the age limit)
.
Do you think NZ should follow suit? Vote in our poll and share your thoughts below.
