Upper Hutt up with the play on brothel bylaws
Brothels could soon start popping up across Upper Hutt, including in residential neighbourhoods and near schools and churches, after the council revoked a bylaw which effectively barred them from operating in the city.
Under the previous restrictions, which the New Zealand Prostitutes’ Collective described as "draconian” and potentially illegal, brothels could not open in Upper Hutt’s central business district, residential areas or within 200 metres of “sensitive sites”, such as schools, kindergartens or places of worship.
