Upper Hutt capitalises on Lower Hutt shutdown?
I wonder if Upper Hutt's mall and cinemas and other retailing have had a surge of customers since the 7.8 earthquake.
Lower Hutt's large Queensgate/Westfield Mall has been in shutdown and its cinema complex is not due to reopen for weeks if not months.
Some of Upper Hutt's CBD facilities could prosper somewhat from this and I hope they have reaped some benefit.
Around 80 of Westfield's 150 shops etc are due to open tomorrow (Friday).
The Upper Hutt Leader should have addressed this subject but hasn't. The Leader is quickly becoming less relevant by the issue and I think that a combined Leader-Hut News is likely soon rather than waiting for a Hutt Valley local authority amalgamation.

Poll: Do you think NZ should ban social media for youth?
The Australian Prime Minister has expressed plans to ban social media use for children.
This would make it illegal for under 16-year-olds to have accounts on platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X.
Social media platforms would be tasked with ensuring children have no access (under-age children and their parents wouldn’t be penalised for breaching the age limit)
.
Do you think NZ should follow suit? Vote in our poll and share your thoughts below.
