Norovirus outbreak in Tokoroa
Hi neighbours,
A Norovirus outbreak has closed a ward at Tokoroa Hospital. Two patients have a confirmed diagnosis of the persistent virus. And three other patients and two staff members were also showing symptoms on Tuesday. To read more, click here.
What you need to know:
- Norovirus is a highly infectious bug.
- Symptoms include: nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea, stomach cramps, headache, low-grade fever, chills, and muscle aches.
- Norovirus can be spread through the air, by touching contaminated surfaces and putting fingers in your mouth, or sharing food or eating from the same plate or cutlery.

The Australian Prime Minister has expressed plans to ban social media use for children.
This would make it illegal for under 16-year-olds to have accounts on platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X.
Social media platforms would be tasked with ensuring children have no access (under-age children and their parents wouldn’t be penalised for breaching the age limit)
