Halloween is creeping up! Our recent Halloween Survey has revealed what New Zealanders REALLY think of Halloween. Did you know that only 1 in 10 households give out healthy snacks to trick or treaters, or that our favourite thing to dress up as is a ‘witch’?

We found out that some participants have some pretty wacky costume ideas like; ‘Donald Trump', ‘an inflatable flamingo’ a ‘popcorn vendor’ and ‘grumpy grannies’. Comment below with what you'll be dressing up as this year!

The popularity of drones in the Taupo District has led to the Taupo Airport Authority developing a mobile app to assist drone users when operating within four kilometres of an aerodrome.

Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) rules state drone operators wanting to fly higher than the height of a structure or tree must have a valid pilot's qualification or be under the supervision of someone who does. Other restrictions mean drones cannot be operated within four kilometres of an aerodrome unless certain conditions are met, such as gaining permission from the aerodrome operator.

Community urged to report vandalism

​Members of the public are being asked to report information about damage to road and traffic signs after a spate of vandalism in Taupo recently.

Nineteen road signs were knocked over and damaged beyond repair over the weekend, resulting in a hefty bill to replace them. Infrastructure manager… View more
​Members of the public are being asked to report information about damage to road and traffic signs after a spate of vandalism in Taupo recently.

Nineteen road signs were knocked over and damaged beyond repair over the weekend, resulting in a hefty bill to replace them. Infrastructure manager Denis Lewis said it would cost around $300 to replace each sign, meaning a bill of almost $6000.

​This weekend marks the start of our jam-packed events calendar and it's going to be another good one!

One of the biggest and most visible events on this weekend is Graffiato: Taupo Street Art Festival, the legendary art event that happens annually at this time of year.

Graffiato, run by Towncentre Taupo, brings together New Zealand's top street artists to paint the bare walls of our town centre's shop sides and back alleys. There are already 80 murals around the district and even more will be added this weekend.
