Taxing of regional ratepayers to fund a "Regional Theatre"

Shirley from Nukuhau

OPEN LETTER TO CHAIRMAN OF WAIKATO REGIONAL COUNCIL

I have to disagree with you. I do not think its fair and equitable for all ratepayers to contribute to the "Regional Theatre"in Hamilton.
If you want a Regional Theatre fund it from Hamilton. This is not the domain of the Regional Council and I very much doubt that the people of Hamilton want it. This would stand empty a great deal of the time.
I just cannot picture the people of the Region travelling from Putaruru,
Tokoroa, Taupo, Thames, Te Aroha to patronise it. Most of those places have their own theatres which they fund themselves, and not out of rates. I am sure there are more important things to worry about than a Regional Theatre. If our council has agreed to this, as is indicated in the article in the Taupo Times on 27 March, I think they need to clear their heads.

Poll: Should all neighbours have to contribute to improvements?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

An Auckland court has ruled a woman doesn’t have to contribute towards the cost of fixing a driveway she shares with 10 neighbours.

When thinking about fences, driveways or tree felling, for example, do you think all neighbours should have to pay if the improvements directly benefit them?
