- The Turangi Tongariro Community Board (TTCB) has been presented with a commercial proposal to set up a container development in Turangi for start-up businesses dubbed ‘Urban HQ’.
The proposed site is the public carpark located at the south-end of the Turangi Town Centre.
This site is currently classed as a roadway, and as leasing a legal road is not permitted, the TTCB would need to recommend that council grants a Licence to Occupy.
The Board is seeking feedback from the community on the change in use of the public carpark.

Poll: Do you think NZ should ban social media for youth?
The Australian Prime Minister has expressed plans to ban social media use for children.
This would make it illegal for under 16-year-olds to have accounts on platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X.
Social media platforms would be tasked with ensuring children have no access (under-age children and their parents wouldn’t be penalised for breaching the age limit)
.
