Power outage in Taupo - are you affected?

Reporter Taupō Times

A power cut has affected all of Taupo - we will update this post as we find out the latest information.

An 8.30am power cut in Taupō has left businesses and townsfolk waiting for the lights to come back on.

Unison lines company said the cut may originated at the Wairakei substation.

"Transpower staff are investigating an issue relating to an issue with a switchboard at their Wairakei substation," a post to Unison's Facebook page said at 10.05am. "They will provide us with an update as soon as they have completed their inspection."

Transpower operated the national power grid.

Kinloch and Reporoa are without power too. Turangi, Tokoroa, Mangakino and Whakamaru still have power. Taupō Hospital has back-up power systems and Taupō Airport has generators running to power guidance systems.

Poll: Do you think banning gang patches is reasonable?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

With the government cracking down on gangs, it is now illegal for gang members to display their insignia in public places whether through clothing or their property.

This means arrests can be made if these patches are worn in places like restaurants, shops, on public transport or ferries, and on airplanes. Arrests were made recently at a funeral.

Do you think this ban is reasonable?

Poll: Should all neighbours have to contribute to improvements?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

An Auckland court has ruled a woman doesn’t have to contribute towards the cost of fixing a driveway she shares with 10 neighbours.

When thinking about fences, driveways or tree felling, for example, do you think all neighbours should have to pay if the improvements directly benefit them?
