Insect and bird numbers growing near Waimakariri River
Nine restoration projects within the Waimakariri zone are already contributing to the food chain in the river system.
There are encouraging signs that the thousands of shrubs and trees planted are becoming self-sustaining and insect and bird numbers are growing.
"If you really look around, you'll see two-and-half-year-old native shrubs with five to 10 cocoons attached to them, and you don't see many cocoons on the willows and poplars growing here," says park ranger Greg Stanley.
Poll: Should all neighbours have to contribute to improvements?
An Auckland court has ruled a woman doesn’t have to contribute towards the cost of fixing a driveway she shares with 10 neighbours.
When thinking about fences, driveways or tree felling, for example, do you think all neighbours should have to pay if the improvements directly benefit them?
