Community helping Kaiapoi North School pupils get to Santa Parade after fire
The Kaiapoi community has rallied to ensure pupils at a school hit by a "heartbreaking" fire can still take part in their town's Santa Parade.
The Kaiapoi Promotions Association has offered to create a float for the school and has received support from Kaiapoi Menz Shed, Kaiapoi Monograms, the Woodend Lions and other local businesses.
The Kaiapoi-Tuahiwi Community Board has also approved a $500 grant to pay for building materials.
Poll: Do you think banning gang patches is reasonable?
With the government cracking down on gangs, it is now illegal for gang members to display their insignia in public places whether through clothing or their property.
This means arrests can be made if these patches are worn in places like restaurants, shops, on public transport or ferries, and on airplanes. Arrests were made recently at a funeral.
