Mapua Movies
The Packhouse cinema in Mapua's community hall is showing another great movie on Sunday, July 12th.
Twelve people have walked on the Moon but only one person has ever walked the immense void between the Twin Towers of the former World trade centre in New York!
"The Walk" is a movie about the life of French high-wire artist Philippe Petit, who in 1974 illegally performed a high-wire walk between the World Trade Center's Twin Towers. Phillipe is a dreamer who risked everything to achieve the impossible, and as a result gave people something beautiful, pure and hopeful.
The movie is interspersed with scenes of Phillippe Petit (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) talking directly to the audience, narrating his life story and the events that led up to his high-wire stunt. The unbearably intense second half surely makes up for all the talk. It's taut and scary with thrills and sequences boasting miraculous visual effects. there are times when you may need to close your eyes. (as evidenced by my sweaty palms).
I would go so far as to say, “there's no point watching this movie anywhere else other than at a cinema.”
Bring you own chair and drink it is again and no pre booking required anymore.
Enjoy a drink and some food before or after at the Sprig and Fern on the other side of the road.
Doors open at 6:15, movie stars at 6:30 and entry is 12 dollars a head.
Poll: Do you think NZ should ban social media for youth?
The Australian Prime Minister has expressed plans to ban social media use for children.
This would make it illegal for under 16-year-olds to have accounts on platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X.
Social media platforms would be tasked with ensuring children have no access (under-age children and their parents wouldn’t be penalised for breaching the age limit)
.
Do you think NZ should follow suit? Vote in our poll and share your thoughts below.
