New Zealand’s minimum sick leave allowance is one of the lowest in the OECD. In Australia they get 10 days, in most European countries it’s even more.

Fig “Brown Turkey” A decidious tree growing to 6m by 6m at a medium rate, which is hardy and low maintenance Not disease prone and does not require spraying. Branches can be trained along fence or trellis in winter when the sap is not flowing. Figs require full sun all day to ripen. $8
Red and Black currants: Enjoy the juicy currants fresh, juiced, or made into jam or jelly. Very easy to grow. Currants loose their leaves in autumn and will sprout again in spring. $8 each
Elderberry Prefers moist loamy soil but grows well in heavy clay.
Very tolerant of pruning, plants can be cut back to ground level and will regrow from the base. It has beautiful white flowers in spring, which can be used to make tea, wine, syrups, fritters and skin lotion, and are good for hayfever, sinusitis and sore throats .
If you don’t pick all the flowers, you will get berries in autumn which contain anti-oxidants and help with colds and flu. $8 each
