53 new homes to be built in Cannons Creek

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

Construction of a new state housing area, featuring landscaped sections and balconies, is due to begin in Porirua early next year. Porirua City Council has granted Housing New Zealand resource consent to develop 53 two-storey dwellings, ranging in size between one and five bedrooms, in eastern Porirua’s Castor Loop area on a plot that has been empty for nine years.

The development will be part of a wider building programme that will see Wellington's state housing stock increase by as many as 145 homes, with even more planned for the rest of the country. A Housing NZ spokesman said the organisation planned to hold further meetings to update the community, following an initial design meeting back in March.

Poll: Do you think NZ should ban social media for youth?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

The Australian Prime Minister has expressed plans to ban social media use for children.

This would make it illegal for under 16-year-olds to have accounts on platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X.
Social media platforms would be tasked with ensuring children have no access (under-age children and their parents wouldn’t be penalised for breaching the age limit)
.
Do you think NZ should follow suit? Vote in our poll and share your thoughts below.
