50 YEARS TODAY
The Rotary Club of Tawa was chartered on 4 April 1970 and would have been celebrating its first 50 years this weekend. These celebrations are now on hold until later in the year.
In the meantime, publication of the 50th anniversary book, “Creating and Enhancing Communities: the first 50 Years of the Rotary Club of Tawa”, will still go ahead.
In her foreword to the book, edited by Pat Waite, Club President Judith Gray writes that, despite the many changes and challenges over the years, the club’s spirit of service has persisted.
“It has a history of vigorously supporting local and global projects, helping young people take up scholarships and programmes that have given them a chance to grow and develop into citizens of the world.”
The book touches on many of these projects and the people involved and will be available for the public to purchase in due course.
Poll: Do you think NZ should ban social media for youth?
The Australian Prime Minister has expressed plans to ban social media use for children.
This would make it illegal for under 16-year-olds to have accounts on platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X.
Social media platforms would be tasked with ensuring children have no access (under-age children and their parents wouldn’t be penalised for breaching the age limit)
.
