Tawa Lions Saturday Market
This coming Saturday 5 May the Tawa Lions Market at Outlet City will be open from 9am to 2pm, featuring our regular Fruit and Vegetable vendor along with our own stall with eggs and honey. Saturday's weather forecast is looking good so we expect a good turnout of other stalls plus our Lions used book stall will be out for your perusal.
This week we have Honey and egg news.
We are expecting to have some Waireka Rewarewa honey in 500g jars for $16.00. This honey is more expensive than the Helens Honey we normally have on sale and we are looking to broaden our Honey product offerings. There will be free taste-testing available on the Rewarewa honey.
This week is likely to be the last week we have Standard barn eggs available. The reason is most producers are moving to free-range eggs only, so supply-and-demand is driving up barn egg prices and increased supply is keeping free-range egg prices static. We will continue with Standard barn eggs but only as long as they are substantially cheaper than free-range. We will confirm Standard barn eggs availability each week.
Tawa Lions gratefully acknowledges the support of Outlet City in providing the venue for our Market.
What's your favourite recipe for courgettes?
Kia ora neighbours. If you've got a family recipe for courgettes, we'd love to see it and maybe publish it in our magazine. Send your recipe to mailbox@nzgardener.co.nz, and if we use it in the mag, you will receive a free copy of our January 2025 issue.
Poll: Do you think NZ should ban social media for youth?
The Australian Prime Minister has expressed plans to ban social media use for children.
This would make it illegal for under 16-year-olds to have accounts on platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X.
Social media platforms would be tasked with ensuring children have no access (under-age children and their parents wouldn’t be penalised for breaching the age limit)
.

The Hikoi on Tuesday 19th
I copied this from a Facebook page: The expected route of the hīkoi on Tuesday is from Takapuwahia Maree in Esldon towards Porirua and along Kenepuru Drive to Tawa, then up Middleton Road to Johnsonville, down Ngaraunga George and along the old Hutt Road to Wellington. They are anticipating significant congestion on the roads between 06.00am and 12.30pm.
