Rubbish bag shortage in Porirua
The Porirua council and some supermarkets have run out rubbish bags.
The council says you may now leave a standard black rubbish bag at the kerbside and it will be picked up.
"Please use a black bag like the ones available at most supermarkets so it can be easily spotted from the truck."
Bags still need to weigh less than 15kg and won’t be picked up if they’re heavier than that.
This change will apply to March 32, to allow stocks to build up again.

Poll: Do you think NZ should ban social media for youth?
The Australian Prime Minister has expressed plans to ban social media use for children.
This would make it illegal for under 16-year-olds to have accounts on platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X.
Social media platforms would be tasked with ensuring children have no access (under-age children and their parents wouldn’t be penalised for breaching the age limit)
.
