JAZZ n BLUES meet The BEATLES - Rodger Fox

Mary from Paekakariki

Mulled Wine Concerts - Kapiti's vibrant concert organisation headed by pianist Mary Gow will put on a special event to kick off their 2021 season. The Summer Special concert will happen at the historic St Peter's Hall in Paekakariki on Saturday 30 January 2021. Mary Gow is upbeat - "We had such a great time at St Peters last year - it is a great venue and is even closer to the centre of the village" she says. A raffle, with prizes donated by Kapiti businesses will form part of the excitement.

The concert will feature an evening of great music, featuring NZ's premier jazzman Rodger Fox and his seven-man ensemble with Erna Ferry. For 43 years Rodger Fox and his big band have set the benchmark for jazz in New Zealand. Unlike many jazz musicians who’ve gone offshore, Rodger has stayed here to offer his gift of performance, arranging, administration, conducting and teaching.

The Mulled Wine concert will see Rodger lead his select jazz ensemble, playing his dynamic solos and leading the music. Erna Ferry is a vivacious, fun and sparkling jazz/blues singer with a great stage personality. She has the ability to grab the audience and make them hers. Whether she is singing a slow sultry ballad or belting out a swinging blues, you are in no doubt that Erna is giving the song her utmost.

Like many people, Rodger Fox is a great fan of Beatles music and feels that their great tunes and inspirational words lend themselves to a jazz interpretation. Rodger says " Live the classic sounds of the Beatles in a new Jazz ’n Blues performance - tunes like, Ticket to Ride, Drive My Car, A Hard Day’s Night, Day Tripper, I Saw Her Standing There and others all with a twist of jazz and blues".

So this concert will offer a prime election of hits from the Fab Four, together with other jazz standards. A fun night out is guaranteed!

Poll: Do you think NZ should ban social media for youth?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

The Australian Prime Minister has expressed plans to ban social media use for children.

This would make it illegal for under 16-year-olds to have accounts on platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X.
Social media platforms would be tasked with ensuring children have no access (under-age children and their parents wouldn’t be penalised for breaching the age limit)
.
Do you think NZ should follow suit? Vote in our poll and share your thoughts below.
