If you do test positive, you will have to isolate for at least 14 days in your home, or other suitable accommodation.
Household members of anyone who is infected will need to remain in isolation for at least 10 days after the positive case has been released from isolation.
Omicron can be in your system for a while before symptoms appear, and it’s unclear how infectious you might be during that time, so having a plan in place before you need it can help make your home as safe and comfortable as possible for everyone living in it.

Mulled Wine Concerts annual fundraiser in Paekakariki is kicking off their 2022 season featuring New Zealand's premier jazzman, Rodger Fox, and his seven piece Jazz Ensemble.
Live the classic sounds of the Beatles in a new Jazz 'n Blues performance.
Hear tunes like, Ride My Drive, A Hard Day's Night, Day Tripper, Ticket To Ride, I Saw Her Standing There and others all with a twist of jazz and blues.
Come along and join the Rodger Fox Band - Rodger Fox - Trombone, Erna Ferry - Vocals, James Guilford - Trumpet, Bryn Van Vliet - Saxophone, Ayrton Foote - Keyboards, Gus Reece - Guitar, Rory Macartney - Bass and Lance Philip – Drums.
Rodger Fox is New Zealand’s foremost jazz trombonist, big band leader, jazz educator, arranger and producer. He has promoted and played in live concerts in the Global Festival arena, Montreux Jazz Festival, Monterey Jazz Festival, Manly Jazz Festival, Wichita Jazz Festival.
In 2022 he was made a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit (CNZM) for services to music and in 2005 Massey University awarded him an Honorary Doctorate of Music. His various ensembles have released over three dozen full-length albums over the past decades.
Rodger is no stranger to Mulled Wine Concerts and returns to the Memorial Hall on Paekakariki's glorious sea-front on Saturday 29 January in fine form, intending to give his audience a night to swing to!
Sangria (non alcoholic) and water bottles will be available. Remember to bring cash for the raffle. A wide range of prizes, donated by our business community are to be won.

High contamination rates in Porirua’s kerbside recycling has prompted an initiative that will see “recycling ambassadors” checking recycling bin contents before collection.

Due to a rising level of contaminated items in the recycling – costing between $6000 and $8000 a month to remove – the ambassadors will be checking what’s being put out for collection.
A month-long audit starts next week and will gather information and data to help identify specific areas where Porirua’s high contamination levels are and target our education and support for those residents.
Following the audit we will be introducing a 3-Strikes process. This means that if we find nonrecyclable or contaminated items in your bin, you’ll get a sticker – if you receive three stickers, you could lose your bin.
Similar initiatives are occurring in other cities, including Hamilton, Christchurch and Dunedin, with positive behaviour changes being experienced and less loads ending up in the landfill.
The recycling industry relies on good quality, clean recyclable material, says David Down, Porirua’s Manager Water and Waste.
“Material is hand-sorted before it goes through the machines and we’re regularly seeing hazardous items such as dirty nappies, sanitary items, broken glass and rotting meat.”
“This is something we all need to do better – sending recycling to the landfill costs the city and the environment, and has health and safety implications for staff collecting the bins and at the sorting facility,” he says.
“We can all play our part by checking what’s in and what’s out. Clean and rinse your glass, plastics and cans, and remember not to put in lids or soft plastics.
“If we work together we can make a positive difference.”
A recycling ambassador is currently in place at the Bulk Recycling Facility at Spicer Landfill, and now we have a high quality of materials being made available for recycling, Mr Down says.
More detailed information on the 3-Strikes process will be delivered to households following the audit.

"Back in the 1970's I got to know National Forest Service Photographer John Johns. John was a phenomenal photographer, who was both technically and creatively brilliant. John was a true gentleman. He shared his knowledge freely too.
One of his many amazing photos was a Kotuku in flight, however his photo was very different to other Kotuku photos I had seen. It was the white bird against a white sky, and in Black and White. It was a beautiful piece of art and showed The Kotuku, our White Herons features so precisely.
John Johns along with Geoff Moon would be our greatest ever wildlife bird photographers. They largely worked with film, creating images in a darkroom, and shooting with manual lenses, They respected their environment immensely.
This Kotuku photo, taken yesterday, is a tribute to John, and what he taught me all those years ago. I was very fortunate to have John and Geoff, who both passed away some years ago now, as friends and mentors".

The Parumoana Schools ‘cluster’ covers the nine primary schools in northern Porirua. It is a longstanding tradition, now stretching back over 20 years, for them to compete to see who their best young speech-makers are. Our club sponsors the contest in late November each year.
This year it was again held at Discovery School, under the new Covid-19 traffic light system. This meant that each speaker was allowed only two supporters, so the audience was smaller than usual, but it proved to be as enthusiastic as ever.
As previously, it was coordinated and chaired by Sarah Jenner, the deputy principal at Discovery School. There were entries from all nine primary schools in the cluster: Plimmerton, St Theresa’s, Pukerua Bay, Pauahatanui, Papakowhai, Discovery, Postgate, Paremata, and Adventure.
Sixteen children (eight girls and eight boys) entered the contest, in two groups: 10 and 11-year-olds, and 12 and 13-year-olds. Each had won the right to compete by winning their own school’s contest. Parents, supporters, and club members were treated to speeches covering an extraordinary variety of topics, some humorous, some serious, and some challenging. The students were animated, confident and well practised, and astonishing in their maturity.
The chief judge was Wendy Betteridge, supported by David Pine, and Darrell Phillips from Spinnaker Toastmasters.
There were certificates for all the contestants, trophies for the winners, and cups for the winners’ schools, all presented by President Kay. Wendy had some well-chosen words of advice for the contestants at the end and opined that the standard of speeches this year was the highest ever.

Years 5&6
First: Annabel Mander (Pauahatanui): “Plastic waste”
Second: Dylan Griffiths (Plimmerton): “Octopusses”
Third: Ava Duncan (St Theresa’s): “Smiling”
Year 7&8
First: Sebastion Knighton (Paremata): “Bread”
Second: Hadley Fale (Papakowhai): “Covid 19”
Third: Ollie Bass (Plimmerton): “The colour yellow”
The school trophies were awarded to Pauahatanui and Paremata Schools.
David Knight again ran things at the Rotary end, quietly but with his usual aplomb.
Because of the enthusiasm of the participating schools, the speech contest shows no signs of losing momentum and is greatly enjoyed by the club members who come along.
