$1.2m to repair Te Newhanga Community Centre
First we got hit with a $2m bill to fix Waikanae Library after it was closed following 16 years of leaky building issues with toxic mould. Now Te Newhanga Community Centre has similar issues and faces a $1.2m repair bill!
This reinforces my call for an independent review into KCDC's asset management practices and to check for any other building issues that are lurking out there. When KCDC is already in a tight financial situation, we simply can't afford these types of building disasters.

Poll: Do you think banning gang patches is reasonable?
With the government cracking down on gangs, it is now illegal for gang members to display their insignia in public places whether through clothing or their property.
This means arrests can be made if these patches are worn in places like restaurants, shops, on public transport or ferries, and on airplanes. Arrests were made recently at a funeral.
