The Amohia stormwater upgrade work along Rimu Road is expected to reach the Kāpiti Road intersection around September. Work will then progress east along Kāpiti Road towards Amohia Street, with approximately 805 metres of new larger stormwater pipe laid by March 2024. Each of these stages will have their own traffic management plan, which we'll continue to share with you before they occur.
We know this work is disruptive, and we’re constantly reviewing traffic flows and adjusting them where we can to minimise the impact. We appreciate your patience and cooperation. Upgrading this important infrastructure will help reduce flooding for approximately 350 properties in the area, while helping our district prepare to live with more rain.

A petition is circulating to get curtains added as part of the Healthy Homes Standards in the hopes of helping renters avoid living in cold, damp conditions. Do you think curtains should be mandatory for New Zealand homes?

This builds on the survey we did on the building, property and consenting section a few months back. You told us you found it hard to find things in the structure we’d suggested, so we’ve listened and come up with what we hope is a more straightforward approach. Your response will help us organise the content on our website, and will only take about 10–15 minutes – ows.io...
To say thank you for investing your time we have two $100 prezzie cards to give away! Just include your name and email at the end of the survey to go in the draw.

"A great day for getting out and about, so it was off to Silverstream armed with my hiking boots as I knew the track would be really muddy! I couldn't clap eyes on any kingfishers today but there was plenty of other birdlife, and most of them seemed to be performing ablutions including a fantail (unfortunately he was well hidden when he was bathing so the photo isn't very good!)."

Work began in early 2022 and while there have been delays, the completion of the project is at hand as the final landscaping touches are put in.
Over 500m2 of sludge from the former pond was either removed from site or treated in geobags last winter. Quarry rock and clay soil from behind Porirua Park was transported in as fill.
Parks & City Services Manager Julian Emeny says the final result is something the city will be proud of.
“This has not been an easy project for a number of reasons, much of it due to the low-lying ground and average weather conditions contractors have had to deal with, and this area is going to add to one of Porirua’s favourite places,” he says.
