Heavy Rain Warning for Kapiti Coast

Murray from Paraparaumu

Please note a heavy rain warning has been issued for the Kapiti Coast, with heavy rain beginning around 7.00am. This is to be taken seriously, as opposed to those we have received frequently for the Tararua range that seldom affect us.

We've had 20mm in the hour since the rain began at 7.00 am.

This is this the first time a severe storm warning has been issued for Kapiti for some years, and follows semi-drought condition for most of the year to date.

Noon Update
Kapiti again seems to have missed the very worst of this deluge, with only 8 mm falling since the first hour's downpour, giving a total of 28 mm. Even the temporary ponding on my lawn has disappeared. However, we are still under a warning and additional heavy squalls are likely.
