Have you got fruit trees which grow more fruit than you need for your household?

Helen from Takaro

Hello Takaro neighbours,

It's citrus season and as I walk around the neighbourhood, I admire many mandarin, lemon, grapefruit and lime trees...heavy with beautiful fruit.

If you have excess fruit and are interested in sharing your abundance (and preventing the fruit going to waste), I'm affiliated with Community Fruit Harvest Manawatū - a harvest capture/distribution group, run by volunteers, who work to get excess produce to people who need it - you can drop bagged or boxed excess fruit (or vegetables!) to my driveway doorstep and I'll get it to where our coordinator, Debra, tells me it is most needed on the day.

If you'd like to drop bags/boxes of fruit in to me for distribution, please message me for my address. (It's a central, Takaro address.)

Or another service CFHM offers is that if you are too busy/not able to pick the fruit on your trees yourself, we can organise for volunteer/s to come and pick it for you, leaving some for you and taking your excess away for distribution. If this option suits you better, email Debra, our central coordinator to request a visit from a volunteer picker.

email: pickfruit@slingshot.co.nz

So, where does your fruit end up?

It varies, but includes Just Zilch, local food banks, lunches-in-schools programmes like Eat Up NZ, and sharing tables at local libraries, etc.

If you're interested in becoming a Community Fruit Harvest volunteer - you can email Debra at the above email address about that, too.

Let's work together to get the generous abundance of local fruit trees out to local tummies.

& You can find Community Fruit Harvest Manawatū on FB here: www.facebook.com...

Thanks so much!

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

There's nothing worse than strolling around the streets in your neighbourhood and seeing dumped rubbish.

Have you noticed this in your area? What could we do to combat this around the country?
