Mass whale stranding on Stewart Island
Hi neighbours,
About 145 pilot whales have died following a mass stranding at Mason Bay on Stewart Island. How sad! To read more, click here.
A DOC spokeswoman said a tramper found the whales on Saturday and notified DOC staff at 10.30pm the same night.
Half the whales were dead and the decision was made to euthanise the remainder of the whales.
Are whale strandings very common at the beach closest to your community? (Please add "NFP/not for print" if you do not want your images/ comments used on Stuff)
