How to stop bananas ripening - for more than a week
- I did an hour of research to discover this, and it works.
- Peel them and keep them in a container in the fridge (not the freezer).
- Try to minimize pressure of bananas on the container or each other (see picture, it bruises them)
- Apparently ripening is caused by the skin and stem.
- Today I enjoyed another banana bought a week ago, still as it was then.
- This means we can buy 'ready' bananas, or even 'starting to speckle', and not have to visit the supermarket so often (saves fuel and carbon, you don't impulse-spend on other things while there, also wasting money, overeating).
- It also means no-more unhealthy 'have to eat that banana because it's going off' when you don't want to.
Poll: Do you think banning gang patches is reasonable?
With the government cracking down on gangs, it is now illegal for gang members to display their insignia in public places whether through clothing or their property.
This means arrests can be made if these patches are worn in places like restaurants, shops, on public transport or ferries, and on airplanes. Arrests were made recently at a funeral.

Poll: Should all neighbours have to contribute to improvements?
An Auckland court has ruled a woman doesn’t have to contribute towards the cost of fixing a driveway she shares with 10 neighbours.
When thinking about fences, driveways or tree felling, for example, do you think all neighbours should have to pay if the improvements directly benefit them?
