Often called 'the funniest farce ever written', Noises Off presents a manic menagerie of itinerant inept actors rehearsing a flop called 'Nothing On'. On and off stage rivalries abound, doors slamming, props going missing, doors sticking, egos and pride getting bruised, with chaos waiting in the wings at every turn, plus the odd sardine or two...... All this comes together in a high paced, slick and hilariously comical play.
The story is told in three acts, and plays itself out in a 'play-within-a-play', commencing only hours before the opening of their production, and the touring company is hurriedly running through the dress rehearsal in The Grand Theatre, Weston-Super-Mare, before the audience arrives. Act 2 moves forward in time by several weeks. Entrances and exits being made...... or not, arguments, alcohol, stress and sustained agitation contribute to disaster waiting around the corner. Finally, we reach sublime deterioration in Act 3, scenery collapses, props explode and our cast has become feral.
Please note, as Noises Off is such a fast paced, frenetic foray into the absurd and improbable, and added that some actors will be required to play two characters (one off stage and one on stage), the auditions will be presented in a group format, employing set fictitious situations and scenarios to act out. This will aid the casting process.
